The Political Activism of Anthropologist Franz Boas, Citizen Scientist
The book chronicles the interaction of Boas' groundbreaking anthropology - he became known as the Father of American Anthropology - which included his work demolishing the notion of racial superiority, with his progressive political activism. He was an ardent paciifist, opposing the entry of the United States into World War I, and a strong advocate of speech, founding a powerful organization the American Committee for Democracy and Intellectual Freedom.
